Tough Times: Reds Cite Vedas to Win Hearts

Its mythology over ideology for the Communist party of India as a survival strategy. Left staring at a rapidly shrinking support base, and unable to attract the new generation of voters, the Communist Party of India (CPI) is turning to the power of Hinduism to stay relevant.

Today, a three-day seminar begins in one of the last red bastions in the country which will focus on the “power of the past”. The Kannur meet—aptly called Bharateeyam—will have stalwarts studying the past to seek answers for the future.

For the first time in the history of any Left party,  sessions will be held on traditional Indian knowledge systems, Indian philosophy and culture. Also on the agenda are detailed discussions on Vedic and pre-Vedic periods and the Upanishads.

The seminar, which will be attended by academics and Vedic experts from across the country, will have separate sessions on Vedanta, Indian Philosophy and Thoughts, Relevance and Significance of Upanishadic Literature and Indian Knowledge Systems.

“Vedic literature forms a wonderful monument of literary wealth handed over to us by our ancestors…” begins the brochure for the seminar. And the stated objective of the meet is to “popularise ancient authors and their thoughts to the new generation without any prejudice.”

While one may, out of habit, associate these topics with right-wing politics and ideology, one need not anymore if one goes by the CPI argument.

“Vedas and Upanishads are part of our collective past. Why should we let the RSS hijack it? We all have lessons to learn from these ancient texts,” said a CPI leader when asked about the apparent incongruity in the topic of the seminar and the tenets of Leftist ideology. Organised on behalf of a trust named after late CPI leader N E Balram, the seminar is being attended by politicians and academics from across the country.

“Other Communist parties may agree or disagree, but it is a fact that no Left party can survive in India without acknowledging India’s collective past and traditions,” the CPI leader added for good measure.

Going a step further, the brochure proudly declares that CPI leaders like Veliyam Bhargavan and K Damodaran are “scholars of Vedic literature and classic Sanskrit.”

Interestingly, the seminar is being held at a time political parties are still recovering from the after effects of the AAP phenomenon in Delhi and elsewhere. CPI in particular has reasons to worry as its senior leader and National Council member Kamal Mitra Chenoy recently joined AAP. While quitting CPI he said: “Either we can say people are stupid or we are behind times.”

However, CPI leaders insisted the seminar had nothing to do with AAP.

Other religions have started adopting Hindu customs, celebration mode / culture. Survival strategy is common. When religions themselves need these, political parties cannot escape this. Even the so called Dravidian Parties, started this long back. How long one can survive with old time slogans.

For the past 60 years communists have done everything to destroy hinduism, hindu texts and hindu cutlure and done verything to destriy our culture of 10000 years and in this cricifixion dynasty agents have done their best to make hindus second class itizens and to make hindu religion a third rate religion thougn it is the ONLY religion that treats all human being as members of one family AND THERE ARE NOT OTHERS OR KAFFERS AS IN ISLAM OR INFIDELS AS IN CHRISTIANITY AND THERE ARE NO GIFTS FOR PUNISHING KAFEERS&INFIDELS& FOR DEMOLISHING THE PLACES OF WORSHIP OF OTHERS, If RSS had not done humalayan efforts hinduism and hindus would have been extinct already! Communists all over the world have done Genocides of all their opponents all over the world and that includes all communst ruled states of hindustan like bengal, tripra, kerala, etc& THE KILLINGS OF OPPONETS BY MARXIS GOONDAS CONTINUE EVEN NOW! For mrxists thei heores ar mao tsedung, pol plot, north korean dictators, etc,SHAME!

That is why commies are called ungrateful parasites - they feed on the native culture and do everything to harm it.

Cithara, Veda has nothing to do with mythology. Vedic literature has more to do with philosophy than mythology. Your inability to distinguish between mythology and philosophy can be understood. Of course Vedas do not need the support or endorsement of communists. But if they find something useful in Vedic literature, that would do immense good to them. They will eschew communism when they read the writing on Karma-yoga. Let us hope at the end they will not say Vedas contain only Charvaka system!

Veda is full of allegories and mystic stories - Purana's stories are directly derived in many cases from Veda. To call it mythology is itself problematic, as though Purana is not a popular expression of the same Vedic knowledge. Of course it has philosophy, consciousness study, subtle knowledge of the nature and what not. While lies and deception are in the habit of commies, the quip 'Vedas contain only Charvaka' is very apt - after all Carvaka the anti-vedic theory is a prototype for the amoral communism!

Here everything has failed: communism, socialism, fascism, capitalism and Western-style democracy. The small-minded politicians betrayed the mass and continues to do so. The self-centred politicians want perpetuate their species/dynasties, creating disillusion and cynicism amidst the ordinary people. This factor has given the impetus to impart a spiritual dimension amidst the present generation and stong signals of such a proclivity is manifest amongst the latter!

It is desirable and welcome change. when the BJP is floating its pet principles in its zest to retain its power and position, by hook or crook, the leftists are now turning to the Indian Culture and tradition. The BJP is no longer capable to carry forward the principles of its original Jan sangh days enunciated by late Shyamji .BJP is now turned into another side of the same coin and a B-Team of the Congress.

LOL... what unintentionally hilarious effort by the leftists...
