Sensex trades flat; realty up, FMCG down

Indian equities flat in post noon trade on Friday. Realty and power stocks witnessed a rise whereas FMCG stocks registered a fall.

At 1.28 p.m., the Sensex was trading up 10.78 points or 0.05% at 22,225.15 with 20 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 11.75 points or 0.18% at 6,653.50 with 37 components gaining.

Sensex Movers

Reliance Industries contributed rise of 27.13 points in the Sensex. It was followed by State Bank Of India (25.39 points), Grasim Industries (9.63 points), Infosys (9.29 points) and NTPC (5.8 points).

However, Housing Development Finance Corporation contributed fall of 31.91 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I T C (25.53 points), H D F C Bank (21.83 points), Larsen & Toubro (7.3 points) and Hindustan Unilever (6.4 points).

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were State Bank Of India (3.01%), Hindalco Industries (2.95%), Tata Power Company (1.63%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.61%), Coal India (1.43%), and Reliance Industries (1.42%).

On the other hand, Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.85%), Jindal Steel & Power (1.55%), H D F C Bank (1.25%), I T C (1.07%), Hindustan Unilever (0.89%), and Larsen & Toubro (0.65%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Mid & Small-cap Space

The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 1.15% and 0.83% respectively. The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were A B G Shipyard (3.41%), Alstom India (2.71%), A I A Engineering (2.05%), Aban Offshore (0.41%) and CORE Education and Technologies (0.16%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (9.98%), Adhunik Metaliks (1.13%), Action Construction Equipment (0.64%), Trident (0.35%) and Styrolution ABS (India) (0.09%).

Sectors in Limelight

The Realty index was at 1,424.98, up by 19.68 points or by 1.40%. The major gainers were Indiabulls Real Estate (6.15%), Godrej Properties (4.02%), Anant Raj (3.93%), D L F (0.69%) and Housing Development and Infrastructure (0.09%).

The Power index was at 1,704.64, up by 20.49 points or by 1.22%. The major gainers were Adani Power (8.67%), C E S C (2.69%), Reliance Infrastructure (2.14%), Crompton Greaves (0.31%) and Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.23%).

On the other hand, the FMCG index was at 6,959.62, down by 38.33 points or by 0.55%. The major losers were I T C (1.07%), Hindustan Unilever (0.89%), Colgate-Palmolive (India) (0.38%) and United Spirits (0.17%).

Market Breadth

Market breadth was positive with 1,507 advances against 1,125 declines.

Value and Volume Toppers

Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 877.54 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 427.40 million), United Spirits (Rs. 402.16 million) and Zee Entertainment Enterprises (Rs. 322.25 million).

The volume chart was led by Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company with trades of over 3.05 million shares. It was followed by Jaiprakash Associates (2.78 million), Unitech (2.51 million) and V I P Industries (2.39 million).
