The Stanley Government Hospital at Royapuram recently got a face lift with the opening of a new surgical ward, dedicated exclusively to cater to those under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme.

It was officially inaugurated on Thursday by  State Health Minister, K C Veeramani. The ward started functioning on Wednesday and has 40 individual AC rooms with bathrooms.

The insurance scheme caters to members of the population below the poverty line and it has got a big boost with the opening of this ward, said Veeramani after opening the ward. Under the scheme, families of those under the Rs 72,000 annual income mark can avail the insurance.

The Stanley Medical College and Hospital has been graded as an A1 Multi-speciality hospital under the scheme after scrutiny through comprehensive multiple criteria. An official at the ward added that it had been constructed to match high standards.
