The Army on Friday got two new Army commanders in Lt Gen Sanjeev Madhok, a Brigade of the Guards officer, and Lt Gen Philip Campose, a Mechanised Infantry officer.
The two new Army commanders were named on the superannuation of the Shimla-based Army Training Command chief Lt Gen K Surendra Nath and Delhi-based Integrated Defence Staff chief Lt Gen N C Marwah.
Lt Gen Madhok will take over as the Army Training Commander on Saturday, succeeding Lt Gen Nath, a Mechanised Infantry officer.As Army Training Command (ARTRAC) GOC-in-C, Madhok will be the chairman of Army Technology Board (ATB) and will work along with Directors of IITs and other reputed Technical Institutions. He will also be the chairman of the Army Management Studies Board (AMSB) and will work along with Directors of IIMs and other reputed management institutions.An alumnus of the Khadakwasla-based National Defence Academy (NDA), Madhok has been awarded the gold medal, first at the Dehradun-based Indian Military Academy (IMA) and again at the Delhi-based National Defence College (NDC), for his outstanding performances in the two institutions.
Lt Gen Philip Campose, an alumnus of the NDA, was promoted as Army commander or General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) against the existing vacancy caused by the retirement of Lt Gen N C Marwah, a Kumaon Regiment officer.However, he will take over as the next Western Army Commander at Chandimandir on July 1 when the incumbent Lt Gen Sanjeev Chachra will be transferred as Udhampur-based Northern Army Commander to complete his tenure there. Campose was hitherto Deputy Chief of Army Staff for Perspective Planning. He had recently taken over as the Colonel Commandant of the Mechanised Infantry Regiment.
