Chief Minister Siddaramaiah justified Congress leader D K Shivakumar’s visit to KJP chief B S Yeddyurappa, seeking his support for the Congress in the Lok Sabha byelections.

The CM told reporters here on Sunday that he was unaware of Shivakumar’s visit but added that there was nothing wrong in seeking support from another party during the time of polls. Moreover, Yeddyurappa is not part of the BJP now, he said.

He added that Shivakumar had visited Yeddyurappa on his own and the party has nothing to do with it, he said.

Siddaramaiah said that Samajwadi Party MLA C P Yogeshwar has not asked for a Cabinet berth, in return for supporting the Congress in the LS polls. “I asked him to support the Congress because it is a secular party,” he said.   He expressed confidence of winning both the seats in Bangalore Rural and Mandya and said  he will take part in the election campaign for eight days, four each in Bangalore Rural and Mandya constituencies.

He criticised former JD(S) MLA Srinivas for his comments on Congress candidate Ramya.

“One should be more responsible while speaking in public,” he said.
