Maruti Tops PV Market With 42 Per Cent Share

The country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki consolidated its position in the automobile sector as the brand commands 42 per cent share in the passenger vehicle segment in FY14.  Despite posting declining sales numbers in recent months, the company saw their share in the auto market rise from 39.43 per cent in FY13.

Maruti’s  passenger vehicle  sales grew marginally to 10,53,689 units in Fy14 when compared to 10,51,046 units in FY13 while its closest competitor (in terms of market share)Korean auto maker Hyundai Motors India was a distant second with a 15.18 per cent share in FY14 against 14.39 per cent recorded in the last fiscal.

 Hyundai sold 3,80,253 units in Fy14 when compared to 3,83,611 units in FY13.

SUV maker Mahindra and Mahindra’s market share stood at 10.5 per cent tipping Tata Motors (last years third highest market share) which now has a 7.94 per cent in FY14 when compared to 11.79 per cent last fiscal. 

Tata’s fortunes continued to decline as the company posted a 36.77 per cent decline in PV sales stood at 1,98,812 units (FY14) from 3,14,464 units in FY13. Foreign car makers continued their good run with Honda Cars India limited posting a 82.81 per cent growth. The growth attributable to their entry into the diesel segment with the launch of Amaze and later with City models.
