Humiliated on being reprimanded in public for stealing money, a 21-year-old man  allegedly murdered his grandmother by slitting her throat on Thursday.

According to police, Muniamma (68) was living on the first floor of a house at Arundathi Nagar in Govindarajapuram near Otteri, while her two sons, Dhanapal and Egambaram, were living with their families on the ground floor. On Thursday, she was found lying dead with her throat slit.

On information, police conducted investigations and arrested the victim’s grandson Sivakumar, who was living a few streets away from the victim’s house.

Angered by Muniamma’s reprimands, Sivakumar had murdered her, police said.
