Band Baaja Bride enters its fourth season and Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who has been with the show for the last two seasons, tells us why we should tune in.

The Kolkata-based designer, famous for his bridal wear, insists that the reality show has evolved. “Over the years we have had couples considering second marriages, people with different outlooks and from different backgrounds – religious and economic,” he says, admitting that the role of styling brides isn’t alien to him.

However, sometimes the outfits take months to create and getting brides to agree to a look can be challenging. After meeting brides from different backgrounds, does he feel the need to start an affordable line?

“A lot of my work finds itself in the ‘copy market’. So we try identifying with a lot of those and try pricing the originals accordingly so that they are affordable.”

As for bridal trends, he insists, “Your bridal garment has to be timeless. Your wedding pictures will stay with you for a very long time. I would say, opt for something with golden embroidery – colours like antique gold and champagne gold are very popular. Among colours, I feel one should stick to red or orange. Other popular colours include rani pink and haldi yellow.”

Mukherjee, who no longer has time for TV, says he enjoys shows like Friends and How I Met Your Mother, but he’ll “always remember Anita Kanwar as Lajoji in Buniyaad and Neena Gupta as Ketki in Khandaan.”

Band Bajaa Bride airs on NDTV Good Times every Sunday at 8:30 pm with reruns on Friday at 2:30 pm.
