Kick-starting his campaign in Seemandhra, BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Wednesday asked the people to choose whether they want a Seemandhra or a Scamandhra. “If you want Seemandhra, I am with you. I will do it for you. I am your man,’’ Modi assured the voters and unveiled a vision for Seemandhra — full of opportunities, jobs and development.

Addressing a well-attended meeting here hours after polling ended in Telangana, Modi issued a veiled threat to corrupt politicians. “I am a person who will not eat (take money) or allow others to eat (accept money). Mein chun chun ke hisab lunga unlogonko (I will take each and every corrupt person to task), he warned.

Modi’s remarks are being seen by TDP supporters as an indirect dig at YSRC chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Modi shared the dais with TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena founder Pawan Kalyan, who, interestingly, for the first time launched a scathing attack on Jagan just before Modi spoke. And, in his address, Modi made it clear, “If you choose to be on the side of Scamandhra, even the government at the Centre cannot develop the region.” Throughout his speech, Modi focused on development that can be done in the region and how his government would help in doing so.

“I know the people of Seemandhra fear for their future after losing Hyderabad. I am telling you when Gujarat was divided from Maharashtra, similar apprehensions were there. But now, Gujarat stands for development. The people of Seemandhra also have the same strength in them to develop the region,’’ Modi said. The Gujarat CM further pointed at gas resources in the KG basin and said, by utilising them, the country itself can be self-reliant.  Modi tried to assure the people that the NDA would leave no stone unturned to develop Seemandhra and make its new capital unmatched. “I will make Seemandhra the gateway of prosperity. I am not just making promises, I am assuring you,’’ he asserted and urged Naidu to develop Seemandhra as a hardware hub. “Can’t we make make mobiles or laptops on our own? The youth are talented here. They can work wonders,’’ he said.

Throughout his speech, Modi tried to strike a chord with the youth. However, it was Pawan who stole the show.
