The state government officials are doing a marathon exercise to send the Telangana Bill to Delhi by Monday. The T-Bill would be sent mostly by Sunday night from Hyderabad. The Bill will reach Delhi on Monday enabling the GoM to discuss it on Tuesday.

The staff at the Directorate of Translations, senior officials at the  Secretariat and also the Assembly staff are on the job of translating the speeches, written opinions and also amendments given by the MLAs and MLCs into English. It all runs into thousands of pages.

The major task before the officials was that most of the MLAs and MLCs, who could not get the opportunity to speak in the House, submitted their views in writing on the last day of the session, i.e., on Thursday. “We have received around 800 pages of material from MLAs on the last day of the session and around 350 pages from the MLCs,” a top official in the Secretariat told Express.

“Some MLAs and MLCs also submitted newspaper clippings, CDs and songs to express their views. We are also under the job of translating these materials,” the official added.

Sources in the Secretariat said that most of the amendments to the clauses to the AP Reorganisation Bill, 2013, were received in English. There was no big problem for them. But, the speeches and written submissions were either in Telugu or Urdu. They have to be translated. “The translation work of speeches of MLAs and MLCs in both Houses were done on a day-to-day basis. This work is nearing completion. But, the views given in writing on the last day is taking much time. That is why the staff are working overnight to complete the Herculean task,” an official added.

As many as 9,072 amendments were received from the MLAs to the T-Bill. These amendments were common in nature. “We are sending the complete version of the amendments and speeches. But, several MLAs and MLCs gave same amendments which are similar.
