Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Sunday offered to hold talks with the Opposition. “The government is doing exactly what a Left government would have done in similar circumstances,” he said.

But CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan spurned the offer.

“All the four gates would be closed and our only demand is that Chandy should quit and face a judicial probe. There have been similar sieges in the past and central forces was never called in. All we are doing is staging a peaceful protest. We are not interested in toppling the government,” he said.

Meanwhile, an emergency meeting of KPCC office bearers rallied behind Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, dubbing the LDF stir as a ruse to topple an elected government through undemocratic means.

“This is an utterly undemocratic and deplorable move to topple the government. The Congress and UDF allies will thwart such attempts,” KPCC chief Ramesh Chennithala told reporters.
