The police have formed a special investigation team to probe into the complaint of K K Rema, widow of RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan, alleging a larger conspiracy involving the top CPM leadership behind the murder of her husband.

North Zone ADGP Shankar Reddy will monitor the probe, said an order issued by DGP K S Balasubramaniam here on Wednesday. The team to be led by SP V K Akbar has DySPs Jaison K Abraham, C D Sreenivasan, Biju Bhaskar, Vadakara circle-inspector K C Subhash Babu and Edachery sub-inspector Saju S Das as members.

The fresh case filed at Edachery station was based on a complaint submitted by Rema to Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on January 10. It urged the minister to launch a probe into the role of those who plotted the murder, including top CPM leaders.

Though the complaint does not name any leader in particular, Rema alleged that several top leaders of the CPM were involved in hatching the murder conspiracy. She reasoned this by citing that the CPM leadership was frantic over the huge support to RMP, the rebel outfit launched by Chandrasekharan. The murder was in vengeance to the challenge posed by the RMP and to regain the party’s lost ground, the complaint alleged.

A fresh probe was imperative as the special court which convicted 11 accused did not inquire deeper into the murder plot, Rema said.

The Home Department handed over the complaint to Kozhikode Rural SP P H Ashraff on January 30 and a case was registered on February 3. The government plans to hand over the case to the CBI after receiving the first information report, Home Department sources said.

The government’s original plan was to hand over a murder conspiracy case registered at Chombal Police Station in 2009. The case had 15 accused and the FIR was submitted to the Eranhipalam court. But, the move was dropped and a fresh case was taken up following a legal advice. The Edachery Police will record the statement of Rema soon.
