An emergency meeting of the KPCC office-bearers held here on Sunday with president Ramesh Chennithala in the chair, followed by another meet of the UDF leaders available in the city, extended full support to the UDF Government and warned that any attempts to topple a democratically-elected government would be resisted.

The KPCC meet adopted a resolution to this effect, Ramesh Chennithala told reporters later. The meet also deplored the Opposition stand that the stir would not be withdrawn until the Chief Minister stepped down from office. The LDF has turned down the offer of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for holding talks, while insisting that such things could be thought of only if the Chief Minister resigned.

‘’The Opposition LDF was after the Solar case for quite sometime, with the main objective of toppling an elected government. The moves are totally undemocratic. The party is strongly behind the government. It is the responsibility of the government to ensure maintenance of law and order,’’ he said.

The meet witnessed a strong demand for action against Government Chief Whip P C George, who had created a stir the other day by opining that it was better for Oommen Chandy to quit and the high command should give him a suitable post at the Centre.

The UDF meet also stood behind Chandy, while his government is facing one of the worst crisis in its current innings.

‘’No government can go into hiding when a politically motivated agitation is unleashed by the Opposition as is evident now. Shouldn’t the government take precautionary measures to checkmate it?’’, asked UDF convenor P P Thankachan.
