Wine with Odia Cuisine!

For wine lovers in the capital, it was an evening worth relishing when they were served wine samples with appetizers coming from the Odia kitchen!

In a first of its kind wine tasting event organised in the city, Grover Zampa gave wine connossieurs a chance to sip in four of its best flavours along with some delicious authentic Odia snacks. Grover, which recently launched its collection of wine in the Odisha market, had planned the event in collaboration with Vinefera Trust.

According to Satyanarayan Mohapatra, founder of the trust, the whole idea of coming up with the event was to promote Odia cuisine along with good wine. ‘‘Generally, wine is considered compatible with European food or cheese but we want to make people aware that wine can delight their senses even when taken with Odia food,’’ said Mohapatra, who has travelled all across the globe and has done an extensive research on wine.

The four wine samples that were served for ‘tasting’ included Zampa Soiree Brut, Zampa Sauvignon Blanc, Grover Art Collection Cabernet Shiraz and Grover La Reserve.

The first one, which was a sparkling wine and had only one teaspoon of sugar in it, was served with chhena poda. ‘‘Since this wine is a little acidic in taste, serving it with sweet can clear the palate,’’ informed Mohapatra.

Sauvignon Blanc, which is white wine, was served with maccha and chingudi bara and meetha gulgula. ‘’This wine goes well with seafood and the gulgula was added to the platter as even Sauvignon Blanc is dry and has a lemony taste,’’ added Mohapatra. Similarly, Cabernet Shiraz, which is a young red wine, was served with spicy Odia seafood as the wine is comparatively sweet to taste while La Reserve, which is a red wine matured in French oak barrels for a minimum of six months was offered with poda mansa. ‘’La Reserve is very heavy and so it goes well with a heavy snack like mutton,’’ quipped Mohapatra.

Speaking about the response of the brand in Odisha, Shubadip Deb Roy, Regional Sales Manager East, said Odisha has a market which is evolving and there is a demand for premium brands in this part of the country. ‘‘We launched our wine here as we see a tremendous change in lifestyle of people in Odisha. It’s been a month since the launch and the response has been positive,’’ he added.
