DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi on Sunday attacked Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, E M Sudarsana Natchiappan, for his comment that India would be able to help Sri Lankan Tamils only if it took part in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), and that he disagrees with the Tamil Nadu Assembly resolution demanding a boycott of the summit.

Meanwhile, PMK founder S Ramadoss criticised External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, flaying him for jumping the gun and announcing his participation even before any comment on the issue by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. “Even as the Centre is yet to officially reveal what it is going to do, Khurshid has gone ahead and announced his participation. Does that mean he has more authority than the PM?” asked Ramadoss.

Meanwhile, the island nation’s major Tamil party, the TNA, ruling the Northern Province, endorsed the stand of Tamil Nadu Assembly and announced that it would also boycott the summit. “We will not take part in CHOGM. But, our stand does not mean that we are protesting against the participating nations. We will be eager to meet them,” Mavai Senathirajah, a senior TNA leader said.
