India reported its highest single-day spike in cases with 15, 968 new cases to take the total to 4,56,183, according to health ministry data on Tuesday morning. 465 new deaths were also reported
The total tally includes 183022 active cases, 258685 cured/discharged/migrated & 14476 deaths.
The Centre on Tuesday maintained that the number of infections per lakh population was among the lowest in the world with the Health ministry crediting the low COVID-19 mortality rate to timely detection of cases, extensive contact tracing and effective clinical management. The ministry also said that the recovery rate has steadily improved and it was nearly 57 per cent.

Bengal extends lockdown till July 31st
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday announced extension of the lockdown in the state till July 31 to contain the spread of COVID-19.
The ongoing lockdown in West Bengal was to end on June 30.
Banerjee, after attending an all-party meeting held at an auditorium adjacent to the state secretariat, said though there were differences of opinion among the leaders, it was finally decided to extend the curbs till the end of July with relaxations.

The Karnataka Health Minister Sriramulu said on Tuesday that a lockdown may be enforced across Bengaluru if the number of COVID-19 cases increases. "Already four regions in Bengaluru have been sealed for 14 days. If the situation continues, we are thinking of a lockdown all over the city. Leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly and Samajwadi Party leader, Ram Govind Chaudhary, has tested positive for coronavirus, an official said on Tuesday. No new COVID-19 reported in Sri Lanka since last three days
