Tension prevailed at Thalaghattapura near Kanakapura Road on Thursday when a 27-year-old inebriated man climbed a mobile phone tower and threatened to end his life. Hundreds of locals gathered to watch the drama and police rushed to the spot and brought him down.

Police said Muthuraj, a native of Kollegal in Chamarajanagar district, who works as a mason, climbed the 40-foot-tall mobile tower installed on the terrace of a house near the police station around 7.45 am and started shouting at people who were at the bus stop.

Police, who were informed of this, rushed to the spot and tried to convince him to come down. He demanded them to bring the media to the spot as he has some demands. After one-and-a-half hours, media men rushed to the spot. Police, along with some locals, brought him down and took him to the police station for enquiry.

“Muthuraj, who is mentally unstable, lives alone. He claims that he has discovered a medicine for HIV and no one is encouraging him. He is not getting publicity like some celebrities in the media and his neighbours are neglecting him. But he has not discovered any medicine,” Thalaghattapura police said.

He also claimed that Kannada film actor Loose Madha had come in his dreams and promised him to get him a job as the lyricist for his next movie, but hired some one else, the police said.
