A number of contractors, working with the BBMP, on Thursday threatened that they will not participate in tender processes of civil works till the Corporation cleared their pending bills.

With this, the BBMP’s ambitious plans of taking up 2,787 works at 198 wards under ward-level projects worth Rs. 465 crore is likely to face hurdles.

The BBMP had recently launched a single window system, where all the decisions related to works, including calling for tenders, issuance of work orders and other formalities will be taken on a single day at a time in all 198 wards.

The BBMP has to pay pending bills of Rs. 1,700 crore to more than 2,500 contractors for the works implemented in the last 15 months. The BBMP Contractors’ Association members had recently met the Chief Minister and urged him to direct the BBMP Commissioner to clear the pending bills. But the bills have not been cleared, the members claimed.
