People’s wait to get a site in layouts developed by Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) may soon come to an end as the authority is planning to invite applications for sites in Kempegowda Layout.

The BDA has not formed any new layouts in the last nine years. BDA Commissioner T Sham Bhatt said, “BDA has acquired 1,300 acres of land and has started to develop the layout. We may invite applications for sites in a month’s time.”

It has invited tenders to develop 10,000 sites and other amenities in the acquired land.  Earlier, the BDA had received 2.7 lakh applications for 20,000 sites in the jinxed Arkavathy Layout.

Considering the demand for sites, the state government in September 2007, announced that the BDA would form five layouts- Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout, Shivaram Karanth Layout, S Nijalingappa Layout, KC Reddy Layout, and Devaraj Urs Layout - to allot 1.76 lakh sites.

The BDA issued a final notification to acquire 4,043 acres and 27 guntas of land in villages in Bangalore North and South taluks  to form 60,000 sites in Kempegowda Layout.

However, the BDA’s Land Acquisition Department managed to hand over 1,469 acres and 8 guntas of land to the Technical Department to obtain clearance to form the layout. The owners of 1,043 acres of land, notified for the layout, have filed writ petitions in the High Court challenging the acquisition.
