Admist reports of a quote claimed to have been said by spokesperson of Tehreek-e-Taliban Ahmed Marwat that a group of fighters in Hyderabad and Amritsar, Punjab, were in place to avenge the death of Pakistani gunman Ajmal Amir Kasab, the Hyerabad police on Thursday denied receiving any information or inputs to suggest a terror strike in the city and said that they were alert enough to face any eventuality.

“We have no information or alert from any agency,” Hyderabad police commissioner Anurag Sharma told mediapersons, adding that they did not have any sort of information about sleeper cells either of the said terror organisation. “I would like to clarify (on the information) that till now we have not got any such report from local, state or any other intelligence agency (about attacks by the terror group),” he said. Sharma, however, was quick to add that no inputs did not mean no action. “We have alerted our forces and are taking regular precautions. We have intensified checking and patrolling in the city,” he said assuring that there was no reason to panic.

When questioned about picking up of terror suspects from the city by the Bangalore police with prior knowledge of the city cops, he said that the suspects had committed offences in Bangalore and had taken shelter in city. Sharma said that security would be put in place on Dec 6, the anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition.

With regard to safety measures for the Assembly session starting Friday, he said, “We are making fool-proof security arrangements and have deployed our forces. A rehearsal was also done.”
