It was a day without non-teaching staff at Bangalore University on Thursday. The association of non-teaching staff of the university had given a call for a strike demanding University Grants Commission (UGC) pay scale for non-teaching staff. To mark their protest all the employees took a break from work.

There are over 1,122 non-teaching employees at the university and a majority of them were on leave. But the personal section of the Vice-Chancellor and affiliation section worked normally. Due to the strike, files had to be kept pending and the Vice-Chancellor managed to clear the emergency files himself, without waiting for the section officers concerned.

BU Vice-Chancellor, B Thimme Gowda said, “It was really tough to work without non-teaching staff. But I somehow managed to clear urgent files.”

A press release from the Bangalore University non-teaching employees’ association stated that the All India Universities Employees’ Union had decided to register protest by taking leave and had given a call to all its affiliates.
