At least 30 passengers in an MTC bus had a close shave when the vehicle ran amok and hit a truck after a lorry brushed against it on the Porur-Kundrathur road on Sunday.

All except three woman passengers escaped unhurt.

The MTC bus (route no 88) headed to the city from Kundrathur had crossed the Gerugambakkam bus stop when an approaching lorry brushed against the bus at a high speed.

“Although there was no damage to the bus, the driver lost control of the vehicle. Driver Karthikeyan accidentally pressed the accelerator and the bus collided with a lorry in front of it,” said a police officer. The front portion including the windshield of the bus was damaged in the collision. Bus passengers were thrown out of their seats and suffered injuries.

“Most of the passengers left after getting first aid from an ambulance service at a nearby private hospital. Only three women sustained injuries,” police said.

Police said the driver of the lorry that brushed against the bus left the lorry and fled away from the accident venue, in a bid to prevent arrest. The Poonamallee Traffic Investigation Wing filed a case and are investigating.
