In order to streamline the admissions process, a division bench of the High Court on Monday issued certain safeguards for students in the admission process into MBBS course under C-category seats (management quota). They will be implemented from the next academic year (2014-15).

The bench comprising justices Ashutosh Mohunta and Dama Seshadri Naidu, while dismissing petitions filed by students challenging the present admission process in private medical colleges, said from now onwards the content and format of applications of all the private colleges shall be uniform and they shall be made available even at the health varsity.

The bench noted that the profit alone is not the driving force and that the government should see that the admission process is transparent and merit-based.

The following are the safeguards:

1) NTR University of Health Sciences should ensure uniformity in form and content of applications, which should be made available at multiple colleges, even at the counters of the university.

2) Admission process should take place in a staggered manner in all private colleges, facilitating opportunity to students to participate in as many colleges as possible, so as to have admission to the best possible college as per their merit.

3) Scrutiny of applications should be transparent and the documents required to be submitted must be predetermined, ensuring that sufficient time is available to the students to procure them.

4) The university should ensure the presence of its representative or those of the education department at the time of interviews in every college.
