Started in Singapore by Sudhesh Iyer, S Mohan and a mystery third partner, Spuul is a site that streams Bollywood films and Indian television shows at little or no cost. And the best part - it’s completely legal.

Spoiled for choice

The site has a large collection of films like Jodha Akbar, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Peepli Live. And now, they’re being touted as the first site to have released a film online two weeks after the theatrical premiere. The film, Future Toh Bright Hai Ji (FTBHJ), which hit theatres on November 2, is directed by Sanjay Amar and stars Delnaaz Irani and soap star Manini De.

Distribution pioneer

Speaking of this novel form of distribution, Prakash Ramchandani, South Asia Head, Spuul, says that the aim of the release was to ensure that movie buffs around the world have easy access to this film and others in the future. Complementing those thoughts,co-founder Mohan says the idea behind Spuul was “to create a flexible service to accommodate today’s busy, on-the-go lifestyle,”adding that it gave users easy access to premium quality Indian content whenever, wherever they wanted. “With the growing popularity of smart phones and tablets, this demand will only increase further,” Mohan explains.

Free Vs Fee The site has three pricing plans - Forever Free(limited films), Premium (`250 per month) and Special (`50 per film). And what distinguishes Spuul from other legal and illegal streaming sites is that there is no time cap on viewing. Users can pause and resume a film without fear of losing the stream. For those on the go, there’s also the option of having Spuul on iPhones, iPads, iPods without, according to the team, compromising on quality.
