Three Kerala Police officials on deputation were removed from service at Bureau of Immigration at the international airport. The action follows their suspected nexus with gold smuggling rackets.

The Customs Preventive Wing had recently held a person hailing from Kozhikode who attempted to smuggle two kg gold from Dubai. Shamsudeen Basheer, the accused, told the Customs officials that he was supposed to hand over the gold bars to an airport official who would wait from him near the toilet.

The Customs in its report filed to the Economic Offices court in Kochi accused three immigration officials of helping the gold smuggling racket.
