The State Women’s Commission has submitted a report to the government with a slew of recommendations for the development of Koraga community in Kasaragod.

The report, which showed concern over the sharp decline in the population of the tribal community, suggested to provide food of nutritional value to Koraga people and to create awareness among them on leading a healthy life.

Considering the education of the children of the community, the Commission put forward an opinion to envisage schemes both to evaluate the standard of the existing system and to strengthen it.

It also suggested to take measures for sending all the children of the community to school.

The Commission pointed out that deserved  members of the community such as widows, elderly and disabled were not getting pension.

There was also a suggestion to set up a model residential school in Kasaragod for students from Class I to Plus-II so that the children of this community could also be accommodated.

A doctor should visit all the Koraga colonies once in 15 days.

“Raw material and financial aid should be provided to help them continue their traditional jobs,” the Commission said in the recommendations submitted to the Department of Social Justice recently.
