Hero Vijay Vasanth returns to silver screen, after Madhil Mel Poonai released earlier this year. The home production under the Triple V Records banner of his brother Vinoth Kumar is a romantic thriller with action and comedy thrown in. Directed by P Rajapandi, who assisted Mani Ratnam in Thiruda Thirudi, the film stars Sattai girl Mahima, opposite the hero.
The music is by his buddy Premgi Amaren. Vijay quips, “We are close friends. So the minute we announced the project, Premgi said to the director, ‘Hi, I’m the music director of your film’! In fact, I was supposed to sing in the film, but since I know only one song, which I hum all the time, Premgi thought better of it!” However, Vijay is happy that his home banner has introduced National award winning actor Saranya as a singer in this film. Says Vijay, “Saranya madam plays my mom in the film. She would keep singing on the sets, between shots. Her good voice inspired the director to ask her if she would sing and she agreed. The song is a folk number and is from a mother’s viewpoint. Things fit in perfectly when she sang it herself!” In fact, Saranya has also danced for the first time in a mom’s role, in the folk number.
The film stars another National award winner, Thambi Ramaiah, besides Rahman and Prabhu. “I had to brush up my local slang for this role. And there were some hi-octane action scenes. With such a talented star cast, including two national award winners around, I had no other option but to give my best in every shot!” says Vijay. He plays a North Madras boy who sticks posters on walls, while Mahima is a nurse. While Rahman plays a politician, Prabhu plays a businessman.
The makers have decided on a novel way to promote their film. “We are going to release a single track on Deepavali, for which we will invite people to shoot their own videos in a contest. The best videos will be awarded at the audio launch on November 21, by five debutant hit directors of 2013,” says Vijay. The producers also plan to felicitate this year’s new directors at the audio launch. Premgi and some Kollywood celebs will be featured in a promo video of a track called The Money Song.
