The JD(S) has threatened to launch an agitation in case the state government fails to check the growth of communalism.

JD(S) national president H D Deve Gowda, said, “Communalism raises its ugly head whenever the Congress comes to power. Since the Congress has been in power at both the state and the national levels, communalism has been on the rise. The state government should collect details from intelligence and police departments regarding the communal clash in Chikmagalur and arrest the culprits,” he said.

According to him, a similar incident took place in Mangalore during the regime of the BJP and JD(S) coalition government. He said  the police had arrested 19 people on directions of the then chief minister H D  Kumaraswamy. “The Congress is responsible for the growth of communalism in Udupi, Chikmagalur and Dakshina Kannada districts. I am not making allegations against any individual. The welfare of state is of my paramount interest. Instead of making allegations against Modi, let Chief Minister Siddaramaiah give a good governance,” he said.

Gowda said a court has given clean chit to BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in only one case. “But  the saffron party has declared him the candidate when so many other cases are pending against him,” he said. Gowda, however,  welcomed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s statement that he would expose corruption of the previous Congress government without bothering about his position.

Regretting the rail mishap near Puttaparthi on early hours of Saturday, Gowda urged the railway authorities to phase out old coaches. “The state government should also announce compensation to all those who were killed in the accident,” he said.
