Man Arrested with 10 kg of Ganja

The shadow team of the Excise Department here on Wednesday seized 10 kg of ganja from a person who pretended to be a Sabarimala pilgrim near the Mayyanadu railway station.

Arrested Muruganandan, 39, was coming to the city from Madurai in a train.

After receiving a tip-off, the team led by Excise Inspector H S Hareesh and Civil Excise Officers Arun Antony, Sreejayan, S Anil Kumar and Manoj Lal had been observing Muruganandan for the past four days.

“Muruganandan was the kingpin behind supplying ganja in Kollam, Alappuzha and Thiruvananthapuram districts. He used to buy large quantities of ganja from Andhra Pradesh to supply in Kerala via Tamil Nadu. Muruganandan used to buy ganja for Rs 400 to Rs 800 per kg and sell it for Rs 8,000 to 10,000,” Excise Circle Inspector B Suresh said.
