Coming down heavily on the state government, CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the government will have to take collective responsibility for its actions and claimed that the Congress will suffer a historic defeat in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, similar to the one it faced in 2004, Pinarayi Vijayan said.

Inaugurating the strike declaration convention organised by the Federation of State Employees and Teachers’ Organisation here on Thursday, the CPM secretary said the agitation by the teachers and staff vital to bring the attention of the authorities to their plight. The public must support the agitation, he added.

“Those who were not with the Left Front till now will also support the LDF in the Lok Sabha polls. Since Narandra Modi is the Prime Ministerial candidate of the BJP, some Congress leaders hope that the minorities will support Congress. But the religious minorities know that supporting Congress would be nothing less than suicidal. During the UDF regime, there has been a rise in communal violence. The LDF, on the other hand, has always taken a strong stand against communalism,” Pinarayi Vijayan said.

Unleashing a scathing attack on Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Pinarayi stated that the UDF Government had lost the moral right to rule. “Many in Congress have lost faith in the Chief Minister. The UDF Government has not been able to identify and address the issues faced by the general public,” he said. The current situation in country favours a government without BJP and Congress at the Centre, he said, citing the example of the Aam Aadmi Party coming to power in Delhi.
