Railways: Cancer patients to get concession

PALAKKAD: As announced by the Union Minister of Railways in the budget speech, with immediate effect, 100 percent concession in Sleeper Class/ AC 3-tier will be given to cancer patients for travelling to and from  recognised hospitals for treatment and periodical check-up, according to an official release.

However, the element of concession to their escort in AC 3-tier and Sleeper Class will remain unchanged, which is 75 percent. The 100 percent concession to the cancer patient is permissible only in the basic fares of Mail/Express trains and all other charges will be realised in full.

The element of concession for cancer patients and their escort in other classes, Second/First Class/AC Chair Car, remains unchanged at 75 percent. For AC 2-tier/First Class AC, the concession remains unchanged at 50 percent.
