With the State Assembly elections only three months away, ticket aspirants for the 2014 polls have started mobilising support in the constituencies.

Though Sukinda constituency is being represented by former finance minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadei for the last five terms in the Assembly, Pradip Balsamant alias Tutu Bal, a BJD leader from the area, is aspiring for BJD ticket this time.

As a show of strength, Bal organised a meeting at Sukindagarh which was attended by youths and women from across the constituency. Addressing the meeting, he underscored the need for strengthening the party at the grassroots level.

"Time has come for all party workers and leaders to analyse the reasons behind backwardness of Sukinda despite having a dozen of steel plants and work out a strategy to improve the area by electing a son of the soil in the coming Assembly polls," he said.

Many senior panchayat-level leaders of BJD who attended the meeting exhorted Bal to keep working for the party in Sukinda.

Bal represents the faction opposed to Ghadei in Sukinda.

Political observers are, however, not sure if Bal can get the BJD ticket by dislodging Ghadei, a veteran who is in the Assembly since 1967.
