Terming Defence Minister A K Antony as an opportunist in the wake of his statement that CPM should support the UPA to keep the BJP away from forming the government at the Centre after the next Lok Sabha elections, BJP national secretary P K Krishnadas said that Congress and CPM should ‘form’ a pre-poll alliance at the ‘supervision’ of A K Antony.

Addressing a news conference here, Krishnadas said Antony by soliciting the support of the CPM, was admitting the fact that the UPA was going to face a total rout across the country.

‘’Instead of criticising Narendra Modi, Antony should have asked Pinarayi Vijayan and V M Sudheeran to sit together to formalise an alliance. They can share 10 seats each and withdraw the other candidates’’ he said.

He pointed out that Antony was reiterating  P C Chacko’s statement that Congress would  have to sit in the Opposition.

‘’As the Union Defence Minister, Kerala voters naturally would expect him to brief them about his achievements as minister.  About it, he is saying nothing. In fact Antony was trying to cover up his disgraceful performance as the Defence Minister’’ he said.

Krishnadas asked whether at any time in Independent India’s history, two Chiefs of the Naval Staff and Air Force had resigned during the tenure of a Defence Minister. “Two important submarines exploded and sank. Precious lives of Naval officers were lost.

Owning up the moral responsibility  the Naval chief of staff resigned. In fact ,the Naval chief need not have resigned. It was in fact the Defence Minister who should have resigned. Actually, the Naval chief was giving a shock treatment to Antony’’ he said. Antony’s statement that Modi’s ‘’AK-47” remarks were demoralising to the armed forces was baseless.

“When Pakistani army personnel infiltrated and beheaded four Indian solders and mutilated their bodies, Antony gave the Pakistani army a clean chit by saying that it was terrorists who came in Pakistani army’s attire who had killed the Indian soldiers,’’ he pointed out.  “Antony, the mascot of the corrupt UPA regime, had done nothing  when the UPA regime plundered the country of Rs 1.76 lakh crore in the 2G scam, lakhs of crores in the Coalgate scam and in several other scams,’’ he said.

Krishnadas pointed out that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, no 2 in the UPA Government A K Antony and Finance Minister P Chidambaram were opting out of contest in this elections due to fear of defeat.

Asked about the prospect of the BJP candidates in the state, the BJP national secretary said they were hopeful that Lotus would bloom this time. ‘’It is not  apt to predict the number of seats we will win, it will be clear on May 16’’ he summed up.
