Nine Killed as Tractor Overturns

Nine people, including six women, were killed and six sustained injuries on Monday when a tractor carrying sugarcane overturned and fell on roadside vendors at Todalabagi village near Jamakhandi in Bagalkot district.

Savalagi sub-inspector Mathapati told Express that the accident occurred at around 1.30 pm.

As it was the day of the weekly market, the place was crowded with traders who were selling their produce on the roadside.

The tractor, which was said to be hauling two trailers,  was on its way to Jamakhandi Sugar factory when the driver lost control of his vehicle.

District Minister S R Patil has announced a compensation of `1 lakh each to relatives of the victims.

A case has been registered at Savalagi police station.
