Criticising Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for “shamelessly” clinging to power even after the Kerala High Court made adverse remarks against him, former general secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) A B Bardhan said that the people have to oust him by ensuring a resounding defeat to the UDF.

“All these scams, be it Solar scam or the land scam, happened right under the Chief Minister’s nose. That is why the LDF demanded his resignation,” Bardhan said.

He also said that the people across the country had already started talking about how the people in Kerala were going to deliver the election verdict. “LDF is going to get at least 15 seats in this election and the UDF will get four to five seats at the maximum,” Bardhan said.

He also welcomed the support extended by former comrades such as K R Gouri and M V Raghavan to strengthen the LDF.

Recollecting his association with K R Gouri, Bardhan said,”Long time back, during the time of the first Kerala government, she was like a heroine for young students like us”.  Bardhan, who was addressing an election meet organised by the LDF, said that he was speaking for M A Baby, a lover of art and music, as his friend.

Bardhan blamed the nexus between the capitalists and those in power in the UPA behind the scams such as 2G and coal scams.

“The so-called policy of neo liberalism is responsible for corruption. Such policies have helped only Ambanis, Jindals and Mittals whereas the conditions of poor have become worse,” Bardhan said. “Unfortunately those who multiplied their wealth are considered as heroes,” Bardhan said.

Calling Narendra Modi as a ‘communal fellow pretending to be the Prime Minister’, Bardhan said the people should unite to keep Modi out in the interest of the nation. He said he knew that the BJP would not get a single seat in Kerala but wanted to remind the dangers posed by the BJP.
