India saw a record single- day jump of 38,902 COVID-19 cases pushing its tally to 10,77,618 on Sunday, while the total number of recoveries rose to 6,77,422, according to the Union Health Ministry data.
Of the 543 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, 144 are from Maharashtra, 93 from Karnataka, 88 from Tamil Nadu, 52 from Andhra Pradesh, 27 from West Bengal, 26 from Delhi, 24 from Uttar Pradesh, 17 from Haryana, 16 from Gujarat and nine from Madhya Pradesh.Bihar, Punjab and Rajasthan have reported seven fatalities each followed by Telangana with six deaths, Jammu and Kashmir five, Odisha and Puducherry three each, Assam, Tripura and Kerala two each while Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand have registered a fatality each.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in the state has reached 26,164, including 6,022. While 19,793 coronavirus cases are recovered/discharged, the death toll stands at 349.
As per the bulletin issued by the state health department, the total cases include 7,145 active cases and 559 deaths after six new fatalities were reported today.
A notice issued by the state's District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) stated that Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) would be enforced in Jammu from 6 pm on all Fridays till 6 am on all Mondays, starting from July 24.
Surat in Gujarat reported 285 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, highest for any district in the state for the day, which pushed its tally beyond the 10,000- mark, the health department said. The district's case count now stands at 10,258, it said.

Eight more people died from coronavirus in Punjab on Sunday as the state's infection tally breached the 10,000-mark with 310 fresh cases. So far, 254 people have succumbed to the infection while the number of infected people has risen to 10,100, a medical bulletin said.

Two fatalities were reported from Ganjam district and one from Gajapati, he said. The three patients died while undergoing treatment in hospitals, the official said.
Keeping the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in mind, the Kathua-based Indian System of Medicines (ISM), in association with the Ministry of Ayush, organised 300 Ayush camps in the district and distributed free medicines to boost immunity. The beneficiaries of these camps included not only the common citizens but security personnel as well.
A complete lockdown has been imposed in Narasaraopet town of Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh from Saturday onwards, according to the Narasaraopet MLA Gopireddy Srinivas Reddy. "The decision was taken as the number of coronavirus cases are increasing in the town since the past ten days," Reddy had said on Friday at the Municipal Guesthouse.
With these states imposing lockdown anew, the health ministry emphasised that the restrictions should be utilised to focus on containment, surveillance and testing in containment and buffer zones as the key strategy for early detection of cases and fatality management.
