Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Wednesday directed  the Centre for Earth Science Studies (CESS) to complete the survey for determining the Coastal Regulation Zone(CRZ)in the state in a time-bound manner and finish the mapping by August-end.

The report in this regard should be submitted before the Science and Technology Department before September 30, Chandy said while addressing a meeting of officials and other stakeholders here.

The meeting pointed out that those living in the coastal areas including the fisherfolk face many difficulties following the CRZ notification issued by the Centre. Developmental activities in different sectors have come to a standstill, the meeting said.  The amount sanctioned for the operations of CESS should be handed over soon. For this purpose, the districts where mapping has been completed should hand over the reports to the Centre.

The meeting further decided to consider seeking the service of some other expert agency in the field, if CESS is not able to complete the study within four months.

Ministers P K Kunhalikutty, K M Mani, Ramesh Chennithala, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Adoor Prakash, M K Muneer, P K Abdurabb, V S Sivakumar, A P Anilkumar, Shibu Baby John, Manjalakuzhi Ali, Chief Secretary E K Bharat Bhushan, senir officials from various departments and CESS also attended the review meeting.
